WHAT A PAIN IN THE NECK.....LITERALLY

As many of you know I have been laid up with a spamodic neck. I woke up on Turesday morning and could not move my head. Being a nurse I did all the right things, I applied icy hot (Curt asked what my new fragrance was I replied "OLD GOLFER") I used a heating pad for 3 hours (Thank god it wasn't Summer) I took Motrin and excedrin back and body, I took a hot shower and let the warm water beat it. To no avail I could not move my head without it feeling as though 2 extremely large barbed ice picks were shoved into the base of my skull. The pain was so severe it made me nauseous. I finally broke down and had Curt drive me to Urgent Care. I must have been in a lot of pain because I am a nurse I am a self diagnoser self treater and only go to the Doctor if I am dying!! Curt understood what this meant if I was asking him to take me to a Doctor. When I got in to see the doctor he said I look as though I were in a bad car accident! The exam was painful as he poked and prodded he kept asking me how I injured myself and I kept repeating that I just woke up that way. I think I went 10 rounds with mohammad ali in my dream( or atleast that is what it felt like) He did x-rays to be sure that there was no apparent damage. He told me that it was the worst Neck spasm he has ever seen. You could litterally see my neck muscles spasming sticking out about 1 1/2 inches from the base of my neck to half way up the back of my Skull. He was a great doctor and prescribed me Vicodin for pain, Zanaflex (a muscle relaxer used to treat MS), and Voltaren ( A NSAID used for severe arthritis). We picked these up from the pharmacy and I was soooo ready to be pain free. I took my pills as prescribed and drifted off into a drug induced coma I woke an hour later very groggy and still in severe pain I was in tears. My husband tucked me back in bed on the heating pad and reassured me to give it time. I continued taking my meds once again falling into a drug induced coma with every dose the pain eased up a little more however never fully going away. I would never make a good pain patient. PAIN SUCKS!!!!!!. Thursday I was due to go back to work I knew I couldn't work on my meds so I didn't take them BIG MISTAKE!! at around 2pm my neck went back into that agonizing Spasm!!!I took my meds and had some relief and called my Doctor for whatever reason The muscle relaxers worked and calm down the Spasm but as soon as I missed a dose the spasm returned. According to the Doctor I must have injured my neck to the point of it being Angry and spasming he said I needed to continue to take the muscle relaxers until the neck was "Happy" Again so I missed work all week and have been bed bound and drugged. Curt has been amazing taking good care of me managing the kids and dealing with my angry outbursts (I hate being in pain I am not a nice person when I hurt). I now get to go to physical therapy to make my neck once again happy!
